A question that comes up a lot is: Are there indicators of beauty in the natal chart? And the answer is yes, absolutely. It’s generally not one placement, though. It’s almost always a confluence of placements. However, at the end of this post, I’ll give you two placements that strongly indicate beauty just by themselves.
Here are some indicators:
A natal chart with Taurus or Libra rising is associated with beauty because these two signs are ruled by Venus and the ruler of the Ascendant is the chart ruler. Having Venus as the chart ruler is a strong sign of attractiveness.
Leo and Virgo rising are also correlated with beauty. It’s a different kind of beauty. If Leo is rising, the native likely has a mane of gorgeous hair and a dramatic way of presenting themselves. With Virgo rising, the expression is more likely to be a face with regular, perhaps even fine, features, lending a delicate type of beauty.
If Venus is in Pisces, it is exalted and that is another indicator of beauty, particularly if well aspected. With a Pisces Venus, the beauty is of a softer, more etheric type.
Another indicator of beauty in a natal chart is Venus in the first house, particularly if it’s conjunct the ascendant. Actually, if Venus is in the 12th house, but close enough to make a conjunction with the Ascendant (within 8 degrees) that works too, though the beauty may be of a more understated type.
In fact, any planet making any aspect to the ascendant will tend to make the native’s appearance striking. Even so-called “hard” aspects will serve to draw attention to the native’s appearance.
If Venus is in Libra or Taurus and in the first house and particularly if conjunct the ascendant, now you’ve got some strong beauty signals.
If the Sun conjoins Venus or makes any aspect with her, that’s another signal. If Neptune conjoins Venus or is in the first house, that lends a dreamy type of beauty. If Neptune is within 3 degrees of the Ascendant, the beauty signal is even stronger.
In fact, if any planet makes *any* aspect to Venus, the expression of physical beauty is more likely. Squares and oppositions to Venus will give a sharpness to beauty, and that edge is often what differentiates a beautiful face from one that is merely pretty.
Further, different planets will tend to give a different type of beauty. For example, Saturn aspects to Venus or to the Ascendant or in the first house will often correlate with a structural or architectural type of definition that can be expressed as high cheekbones, or a well-defined jaw.
As I’ve stated, the type of aspect isn’t that important. What is important is that the aspect is tight. An aspect needs to be within 8 degrees if it’s the Sun or Moon with Venus. For Mercury, Mars, Jupiter and Saturn with Venus, it should be within 5 degrees and for the outer planets within 3 degrees. If the aspects are looser, the striking quality of the native becomes fuzzier.
There are two placements that are rare but almost indicate beauty. The first one is if the native has a sole final dispositor that is Venus. It’s rare to have a sole final dispositor, so if the native has Venus disposing of some planets but not all, this is another beauty signal though less strong. The final placement that is even rarer is if the native has a Mutual Reception between Venus and Mars.
For example, if the native has Venus in Aries or Scorpio and also has Mars in Taurus or Libra then the two planets (Venus and Mars) are in Mutual Reception because Aries/Scorpio are ruled by Mars and Taurus and Libra are ruled by Venus. Venus and Mars work together and if they dispose of every other planet in the chart, we’re looking at a knockout.
Now, some of you are saying wait, Venus in Aries or Venus in Scorpio is in ‘detriment’”. Yes, that’s true. And so is Mars in Taurus or Libra but, because the two dispose of each other in a mutual reception, they work together. So, in a sense, they function more like planets in domicile. This is quite rare, especially when Venus and Mars together dispose of every other planet in the chart. I must say that my experience of studying charts for almost half a century has shown me how beneficial mutual reception is between two planets and if this mutual reception is the final dispositor of the chart, the native often has a surfeit of sexual charisma.
